Metamorphosis

I look at some of my friends now and see how they treat their new born babies. I love that new born babies have high tech toys, their own bedrooms, and just about everything you can imagine a new baby needing to have.

This (as you knew it would) brings me back to my childhood. From the little that I could remember neither I or my sister had any of the luxuries young kids have now. We never had a room to ourselves. If we had a crib it was rare because most young couples there could never afford something as simple as a crib.

I noticed that most of my friends born in the US have tons of pictures of themselves when they were young. Of course in my third world country cameras were a luxury, a luxury that mom and dad couldn't afford. I looked, looked and finally found some images of when I was a kid.

I always think back to how life started for me. If dad never came to this country, I would never known you. I would probably be in Ecuador somewhere, perhaps in something of the same profession, or maybe a thug. I don't know. I always pose these "what if" questions to myself, and then realize how fortunate I am to be one of the few that gets to leave a country like that and do something with myself here in the land of the free.

This is one of the reasons why I'm such a goober when it comes to those who are less fortunate than I am. I feel their pain in more ways than I'd like to. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but nonetheless it's part of who I am.

Don't ask about the hair and the vest.... Mom... You kill me. LOL
You gotta be kidding me

You gotta be kidding me

You gotta be kidding me

How in the world did I go from what you see when I was young to the last picture which is about 7 years old when I was about 22 to 23 years old?

The vest is a travesty but whoever is behind you is equally tragic. Your mom must be one funny lady. ;)

Have you or your family ever thought of participating in Storycorps?

Such a beautiful bambino!
What is the structure behind you in the first image? It looks like a modern, organic design of an amphitheater. And the ball you have in the second image, does that have birds on it? Thank you for sharing the moments in time.

To be honest, I think all the clothes I was wearing were hand made. Really.. You can see how poor people were in those days and in that country.

Now that I see that shirt it looks like a pirate shirt. Oy Vey!

I have no idea what's on the ball next to me, and from the little that I remember I do think it is some kind of theater.

What a beautiful baby. Most of us Americans have no idea how much we really have. I was poor when I was little (by American standards) so I have a small sense of what you're talking about; at least enough to appreciate what I have. Glad you're here man; nice to know you...
